Mrs Helen Wolstenholme

BSc Hons MRCSLT MASLTIP

Independent Speech & Language Therapist

Helen established Speak Freely in 2010 following a career in NHS Speech & Language Therapy Services in several Healthcare Trusts across the UK.  She has a BSc Hons Degree in Speech & Language Therapy, qualifying in 1996 from University Wales Institute Cardiff.


Helen has a particular interest in the field of speech sound disorders, dyslexia, ASD and language development.


Being a working parent herself, Helen understands the demands upon families and seeks to offer a flexible service to fit in around your family and work commitments.

She offers speech therapy in Herts (and surrounding areas) at your home or your child's school/nursery, or her home, based in Watford

Helen is registered with the following professional organisations:

  • The Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) which is required by law
  • The Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP) which provides professional guidelines to all Independent SLTs and access to support and training information
  • The Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) the professional body for SLTs in the UK.

Helen has a current Enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Poilice Check (or DBS) and is committed to maintaining her professional development by attending regular training, conferences (e.g. Autism Show) and keeping abreast of latest research. She has undertaken additional training which includes the following:

  • Makaton signing
  • Selective Mutism
  • Derbyshire Language Scheme
  • Hanen parent training programme
  • Non directive play and communication
  • Auditory attention & listening disorders
  • Cognitive therapy/Counselling
  • Talk Tools - an oral motor programme
  • Speech Sound Disorders - Caroline Bowen Am PhD
  • Palin Parent Child Interaction Therapy (Michael Palin Centre for Stammering)
  • Lidcombe Trained (stammering intervention for children)
